A man who contaminated treats with sleeping medication and distributed them to minors at a summer program in the area has confessed to sexual crimes against two young males both between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight children and an older person fell ill at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the judicial center on Friday.

Yet, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.

The accused was held in detention ahead of a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Treat game'

Mary Prior KC, handling the case, outlined the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.

She explained his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a youth camp which he ran.

Ruben played a "sweet game" with the children, the prosecutor explained, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to consume candy "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge Ruben had conducted this practice with the boys "over an extended period", and minors had previously become sick the next day.

She said Ruben had been able to explain this for many years as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had suspicions in recently.

Mrs Prior KC continued: "Recently" his stepchild had concerns about the situation, with valid cause.

"They resolved" to investigate in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC said objects including baby oil, ointment and injection devices were found, and his stepson alerted the law enforcement about his worries.

She explained the man continued to play the "candy game" with six youngsters that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the following morning.

"Authorities" had not arrived by that stage," she continued.

The oversight body, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the events.

Mrs Prior said the children were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the stepson notified the authorities a second time.

She explained the defendant then conducted the "candy game" in a room of five children.
