Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers say they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then found multiple other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state early analysis show the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; investigators are currently not aware of any harm in association with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for information.
An important political figure stated the attack rendered him without words and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing attack five years ago," he stated on online, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter focusing on residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
